• Sony – XBA-3 Headphone Review

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER David Solomon – Headphones.com Sony is the world’s most prolific headphone manufacturer. When they unleashed their new balanced armature in-ear line, they did so in a big way by releasing 11 different models all at once. The triple driver models (XBA-3 and XBA-3iP) are not as expensive as the quadruple [...]
  • Sony – XBA-4 Headphone Review

QUADROPHILIA David Solomon – Headphones.com Sony has long been the one of the most prolific headphone manufacturers in the world. Their legacy includes some of the greatest headphones ever made and several other fantastic efforts. When I heard that Sony would be releasing an entire series of balanced armature in-ears, one question came to mind: [...]
  • Beyerdynamic – T1 Headphone Review

A SUPREME FLAGSHIP David Solomon – Headphones.com The Beyerdynamic Tesla Series T1 was the first headphone to introduce Beyerdynamic‘s patented Tesla driver design. As of 2012, it is still my favorite headphone to incorporate this driver design. It is without a doubt, one of the best headphones on the market today and a contender for [...]
  • Shure SRH240A Headphone Review

SHURE’S BASE MODEL LACKS BASS David Solomon – Headphones.com The Shure Shure SRH240A (a revised version of the SRH240) is a good choice for those not looking to spend a fortune, but demand to hear detail. They are the base model of Shure’s full-size headphone line. I do have some qualms about the design and [...]
  • Sennheiser HD650 Headphone Review

BEAUTY David Solomon – Headphones.com Sennheiser‘s HD650 is one of the purest sounding headphones I have ever heard. While quite a few offerings trump the HD650s in terms of detail retrieval, soundstage and instrument placement – very few headphones sound as seductively beautiful as the HD650. For this reason, I often find myself returning to [...]
  • Beyerdynamic DT880 Headphone Review

DT880 – AN OLD FAVORITE David Solomon – Headphones.com Beyerdynamic’s DT880 is a headphone which I have been long familiar with and have always had a great affinity for since the first time I heard them. The sound is tilted just a notch brighter than neutral while still sounding very natural and transparent. At one [...]
  • Grado SR125i Headphone Review

David Solomon – Headphones.com AMERICAN MADE GOODNESS – SR125i The SR125i is a wonderful option for those who prefer the feel of the flat Grado earpads as opposed to the bowl-shaped earpads. I personally prefer the comfort of their flat pads over the bowl-shaped pads. Of course, one always has the option of buying the [...]
  • House of Marley Trenchtown Rock Destiny Headphone Review

House of Marley has consistently surprised us with their uniquely designed headphones. The Destiny is their latest offering, a noise cancelling headphone which competes with many similarly-priced noise cancelling headphones and ‘rapper headphones’. Overall I felt that the Destiny is a good choice for a listener who likes great style, active noise cancellation and up-front forward bass.
  • V-MODA Vibrato Earphone Review

V-MODA has quickly garnered a reputation for being pioneers of a rare field in the audio world: Headphones which appeal to consumers and audiophiles alike. Somehow, VMODA has designed products which appeal to the stylistic sensibilities of the fashion conscious consumer without alienating certain audiophile-deal-make-or-break sonic principles.
  • Grado PS500 Headphone Review

Grado headphones have long been embraced by studio professionals and music enthusiasts alike. There is a degree of authenticity achieved with their handcrafted American made minimalist-design headphones. Grado Labs have kept with their roots; staying a close-knit family-owned business. Their newest offering, the PS500, is being embraced as if it were a new flagship.
  • Audeo PFE-232 Perfect Fit Earphone Review

The Audeo PFE-232 are among the very best earphones I have ever come across. While other brands manage to cram more drivers into each earpiece, none have surpassed the PFE-232’s ability to render detail. Notably, Audeo has continued to implement their magnificent user-replaceable acoustic filter design.
  • V-MODA M-80 Headphone Review

In order to please both the consumer and audiophile demographics, headphone companies must either exhaust their R&D departments and often come up short, discover some magic voodoo potion, or simply give up! I know for certain that in the case of the M80, V-Moda did not subscribe to the latter.
  • House of Marley Exodus Headphone Review

The Marley Exodus on ear headphones boasts the name of the legend’s most celebrated recording. I was hopeful that these headphones would live up to the name. In many ways, they do!
  • Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 Earphone Review

Combining truly beautiful sound with a fantastic noise cancellation system, the Audio-Technica ANC23′s might be the perfect set of earbuds. In this review, I’ll highlight some thoughts I’ve had on the rugged durability of the ATH-ANC23′s, the sound quality of the ATH-ANC23 earbuds, and what I thought of the Audio Technica noise cancellation system.
  • SMS Audio STREET by 50 Headphone Review

The SMS Audio STREET by 50 is a very different sounding headphone from the others with which it will be compared (the Beats by Dr. Dre Studios and the SOUL by Ludacris SL300). The most obvious sonic differences are its larger soundstage and it’s slightly recessed midrange presentation, particularly the low mids.

  • Westone 3 In Ear Headphone Review

The Westone 3 is a triple balanced armature driver earphone, with a 3-way crossover. What does this mean? It means that there are three independent drivers in each earpiece which focus specifically on one part of the frequency spectrum (bass, mids, treble). This allows for each driver to have better control and accuracy over the sound produced.

  • SOUL by Ludacris SL99 Earphone Review

What makes reviewing the SL99 so different for me is unlike headphones, earphones are not worn as a fashion accessory and thus the cosmetic appeal is less important here. I had an expectation going into this review that because the SL99 are not intended to be worn as fashion accessory, that somehow I would feel they were inferior in comparison to their wearable counterparts.

  • Denon AH-D1100 Headphone Review

The Denon AH-D1100 is an extremely comfortable headphone to wear. They are noticeably light considering the size and offer a well-padded over-the-ear design. They manage to passively block out a fair amount of outside noise, but are not active noise cancellers…
  • Klipsch Image X10i Earphone Review

I am always looking for the ultimate iPhone compatible earphone. The Klipsch Image X10i are an expensive offering, but their sleek design and excellent microphone and Apple remote implementation are definitely enticing. Let’s take a look…
  • Not Just Another Grado SR60 Review

Long before I joined the team at Headphones.com or was a member of head-fi (the world’s largest headphone enthusiast community), I was just a guy with a dream that there was a headphone which could plug into my portable music device (at that time a discman) and deliver world-class audio. The MP3 as a file format, was still in its early stages and Napster didn’t yet exist, let alone iTunes. It never occurred to me at the time that the up and coming file format would start of wave of changes in the portable listening industry.

  • House of Marley Headphones Review – Positive Vibrations

Celebrity-endorsed headphones seem to be all the rage right now. One of the most unique brands to come out of this craze is House of Marley. Their cosmetic design seems less concerned with impressive bling and flash, and more concerned with honoring the ideals of the music legend whose name the headphones proudly boast.
  • Creative Labs Aurvana Live Headphone Review

When the Creative Labs Aurvana Live arrived for us to try for the first time, I wasn’t among the first to hear them and by the time I had the opportunity to try them out, there was already a buzz around the office that the Creative Lives were a phenomenal offering at the price point. I’m always a skeptic and I really wanted to find fault with these headphones, even if just to go against the grain. In all honesty though, at its $100 price tag I can’t even begin to criticize these headphones.
  • Creative Labs Aurvana In Ear 3 Earphone Review

Creative Labs Aurvana In Ear 3 (part# 51EF0420AA002) is amongst the best IEMs I have heard at its price-point. Make no mistake about it; a dual balanced armature design is a noticeable improvement over a single balanced armature design when done the right way. Creative Labs has succeeded here with flying colors!

  • Able Planet SI1100 In-ear Headphone Review

Able planet has come up with a very interesting and useful design for those who like in ear headphones, but are looking for something a little less invasive with regards to the ear canal.
  • Klipsch Image One Headphone Review

The Klipsch Image One is a great choice for the on-the-go headphone user who wants to cover a lot of bases without spending a lot of money. The Image One is super light, portable and comes with a protective travel pouch which we have come across and feels near weightless on the head.
  • SOUL by Ludacris SL300 Headphone Review

The folks over at Soul by Ludacris know how to make me smile just looking at the box. I have to say, for me, the entire Soul line has some of the most attractive packaging in the industry. The SL300 is one of the most attractive headphones I’ve ever seen. Coming in two colors the SL300GG and the SL300WB, I especially like the Othello-like look of the Black & White version. The gold version is truly eye-catching, but it may be slightly more difficult to fit into a wardrobe.

  • Audeo PFE 022 Earphone Review

Audeo offers up an impressive In-Ear with microphone in the PFE022 + Mic. High quality sound, iPod controls and microphone for 99.99? Have they gone mad? Perhaps. If you are looking to pair your smart phone with a pair of in-ears with microphone, then the PFE022 + Mic should be on your short list. For ten dollars less, you can purchase the PFE012. These are the same earphones without the remote control and microphone feature.

  • SOUL by Ludacris SL150 Headphone Review

David Solomon – Headphones.com The Fit and Finish As a reviewer, I attempt to put myself in the shoes of a consumer who just spent their hard-earned money on a new pair of headphones and is unboxing their new pair of headphones for the first time.  There is a degree of excitement when opening a nicely [...]
  • Beyerdynamic DT 860 Headphone Review

Looking for great sound and comfort out of your iPod? The DT860 are just what the doctor ordered. At its price, the DT860 is one of the best sounding headphones on the market for use directly out of a portable player.
  • Beyerdynamic DT 660 Headphone Review

If you’re looking for a full-size headphone to listen to classical music right out of your portable player, then there is no better choice than the Beyerdynamic DT660. Not only is the sound perfectly suited for classical music, but the isolation provided by the closed back ear cups is perfect for office use.
  • Beyerdynamic DT990 32 Ohm Headphone Review

The Beyerdynamic DT990 32 Ohm is an extraordinary headphone. The sound quality achieved directly out of an iPod when using these headphones is rare at the price point. Phrases that came to mind when listening were “warm but articulate” & “balanced.”
  • Monster Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphone Review

As I write this review, Beats by Dr. Dre brand headphones are currently one of the most established headphone lines on the consumer market. The combination of both attractive looks and packaging, as well as the appeal of world-renowned producer seems to have worked.
  • Thinksound TS02 Review

It’s easy to appreciate the thought that Thinksound puts into their eco-friendly design and packaging, especially since it results in the earphones having a beautiful wooden housing.
  • Headphones – The Perfect Gift For Father’s Day

We all want to get our fathers the best Father’s Day present possible, but how many ‘World’s Best Father’ trophies, or ‘#1 Dad’ bookmarks can he get before he hits his breaking point?  What’s that? • Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 Review

Some of the best under $100 earphones, EVER! David Solomon – Headphones.com DESIGN & FEATURES I wasn’t sure how the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC23 would fare in my vast collection of in-ear-monitors.  Unlike most of the others which I’ve had the pleasure of trying/owning, the ANC23 include a very nice Active Noise Canceling feature.  I was initially [...]
  • Able Planet NC1000CH Review

My immediate impression while just holding the NC1000CH in my hand is that they were light and attractive.  They feel well-made in the hand.  The cable connects to the headphone via mini-plug.  I liked this attribute because it allows the cable to be tugged on without much fear of the cable inferring damage where it connects to the headphone.  If it is tugged too hard, the cable will simply pull out of the socket – a nice feature if you’re busy, on the go and don’t want to worry about unintentional small mistreatments.  Another convenient feature of the cable is the volume control built into the cable itself.

  • Biking With Headphones – Against the Law?

State officials in Oregon are looking to create a law that regulates the use of headphones while riding a bicycle on a highway.  The fine would be a maximum penalty of $90 and applies to ‘telephonic’ devices as well as regular headphones without microphones. There are two sides to this argument, the drivers and the [...]
